Playing Your Music: Quick Steps

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi:

    • Find the Wi-Fi network called SABB Guest AV on your phone or device.
    • Enter the password: Bugle2837$ (Please note: This password changes often. If it doesn’t work, check back here for the latest one.)
    • You must be connected to this Wi-Fi for the music to work.
  2. Play Music with Spotify:

    • Open the Spotify app on your phone or device.
    • Start playing any song.
    • Look for the “Devices” icon at the bottom of the Spotify screen (it often looks like a speaker or computer). Tap it.
    • You should see a list of available devices. Select “SABB WiiM – Birdcage” to play music in that area.
    • Important: Do NOT select any option that sounds like “Main Venue” or similar, as this will change the music in the main building.
  3. Play Music with YouTube Music, Apple Music, or other services (using AirPlay or Chromecast):

    • Make sure you are connected to the SABB Guest AV Wi-Fi network.
    • Open your preferred music app (e.g., YouTube Music, Apple Music).
    • Start playing your music.
    • For Apple (iPhone/iPad) users (AirPlay): Swipe down from the top right of your screen to open the Control Center. Look for the AirPlay icon (a screen with a triangle pointing up at it) and tap it. Select “Birdcage” from the list of devices.
    • For Android users (Chromecast): Look for the Cast icon (it usually looks like a rectangle with a Wi-Fi symbol in the corner) within your music app. Tap it and select “Birdcage” from the list of devices.
    • Important: Only select “Birdcage”. Do NOT stream to the main venue.

More Information

  • Which Speaker? Currently, you can only play music in the “Birdcage” area. The “Back Stables” speaker is not working right now because of a network problem.
  • One Spotify Song at a Time (Using Our Account): If we were to play music using our own SABB Spotify account, only one song can play at a time across all our speakers (including the main venue and the Birdcage). This means if we are playing something in the main venue from our account, you wouldn’t be able to play a different song in the Birdcage using our account.
  • Using Your Own Spotify is Best: This isn’t a problem if you are using your own Spotify account on your phone. You can play whatever you like in the Birdcage from your account without affecting the main venue.
  • Stay on the Guest Wi-Fi: You must be connected to the SABB Guest AV Wi-Fi to control the music in the Birdcage. If you connect to a different Wi-Fi, it won’t work, and you might accidentally play music in the main venue if you connect to that network.

Suggested System Changes (for us to improve things later)

  • Separate Music Zones: To prevent anyone from accidentally playing music in the Main Venue when they mean to play it in the Birdcage or Back Stables, we should put the Birdcage and Back Stables speakers on their own separate Wi-Fi network. This way, people connected to the guest Wi-Fi for the back areas physically can’t choose the Main Venue speakers.
  • Spotify for Everyone: Until Rachel can update the SABB Spotify account to a multi-user plan (like a family plan), we can only play one stream of music from our main SABB Spotify account at a time. If we want different music in the Main Venue and the back areas using our account, we’ll need that upgrade. (This doesn’t affect guests playing music from their own Spotify accounts).
