🎉 Guest Wi-Fi Access (The Birdcage Functions)

For functions in The Birdcage, a dedicated Wi-Fi network is available for guests:

Network Name: SABB Guest AV – Birdcage

🎶 This network is isolated and only allows guests to stream audio to The Birdcage sound system using their own apps (e.g. Spotify, AirPlay AirPlay icon, Chromecast Cast icon, etc.). It does not provide access to the main venue systems or internal networks.

🔑 The password for this guest network changes regularly. Please obtain the current password from SABB Management for your specific function.

🔑 Wi-Fi Password & Support

🛡️ For security, Wi-Fi passwords may be changed periodically.

❓ If you require a Wi-Fi password or encounter issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, please contact SABB Management, who can assist or coordinate with the appropriate technical support if needed.

⚙️ Technical Information (Network)

🔒 The “SABB AV” and “SABB AV – Birdcage” networks operate on separate VLANs for system integrity and security.

🎵 Music
SF Logo

This guide explains how to use the music system at SABB, which primarily uses WiiM music streamers.

🔊 1. Music in the Main Venue Zone

Music in this zone is typically played using the Spotify app on the venue’s iPad.

  • 🎶 Streamer: A single WiiM device.
  • 🌐 Network: Connects to the “SABB AV” Wi-Fi network.
  • 📱 Control with Spotify: Managed via the Spotify app using the “SABB Main Venue” Spotify account (iot@sabb.com.au).
  • 🖥️ Device for Control: Use the dedicated iPad located in the bar. Ensure it is connected to the “SABB AV” Wi-Fi.
  • 🚫 WiiM App: The WiiM Home app is installed on the iPad but is not required for daily staff use in this zone. Playback and volume are handled through Spotify or other streaming apps on the iPad.
▶️ How to Play Music (Main Venue)
  1. 1️⃣ Ensure the bar iPad is connected to “SABB AV” Wi-Fi.
  2. 2️⃣ Open the Spotify app on the iPad (it’s logged into the “SABB Main Venue” account).
  3. 3️⃣ Tap the “Devices” icon (looks like a speaker or screen 📲) in Spotify.
  4. 4️⃣ Select “WiiM – Main Venue” from the list to play music. Volume is controlled via Spotify.
  5. 🎶 Other Apps: You can also stream from other apps on the iPad using AirPlay AirPlay icon or Chromecast Cast icon to “WiiM – Main Venue”.
🕊️ 2. Music in The Birdcage Zone

Music playback in The Birdcage uses the Spotify app or other streaming apps. Staff may need the WiiM Home app for volume balancing between its two WiiM streamers.

  • 🎶 Streamers: Two WiiM devices (“Birdcage – Bar” (TBC) and “WiiM Birdcage – Back Stables”).
  • 🌐 Network for Staff Control: Both connect to the “SABB AV – Birdcage” Wi-Fi network.
  • 📱 Staff Control Device: A designated staff phone/tablet connected to “SABB AV – Birdcage“.
  • 🔑 Spotify Account for Staff: Use the “SABB Birdcage” Spotify account (iot2@sabb.com.au).
🛠️ Staff: Balancing Birdcage Speaker Volumes (WiiM Home App)

The WiiM Home app (on the staff device) is used by staff for:

  • 🔗 Grouping: Linking the two Birdcage WiiMs so they play the same music.
  • ⚖️ Volume Balancing: Adjusting the volume of each WiiM independently *within the group* to set the desired relative sound levels between the Main Bar area and the Back Stables.

✅ Once grouped and balanced by staff, music playback for events is typically managed via guests’ or staff’s own streaming apps.

🎛️ Birdcage Area 1: Main Bar Speakers – Physical Controls

Music Streamer Name: (e.g., “Birdcage – Bar”) (Please confirm name)

Physical Sound Controls (Main Bar Amp):
  1. 🔌 Amplifier Power: MUST be ON.
  2. 🚫 Dials on Amp – Usually DO NOT TOUCH:
    • “Input Level” (for WiiM, may be mislabelled “Sonos” – See SF Follow Up).
    • “Master Volume”.

These are preset. Adjusting can cause poor sound.

  3. 🧱 Wall Volume Dial: Adjusts *some* Main Bar speakers relative to others.
📱 Birdcage Area 2: Back Stables Speakers – App Control

This area uses a dedicated WiiM Amplifier.

  • 🎶 Music Streamer Name:WiiM Birdcage – Back Stables
  • 📲 Control: All control (music selection, volume) is via the streaming app (e.g. Spotify, AirPlay AirPlay icon, Chromecast Cast icon) or the WiiM Home app (for staff adjustments).
👥 Guest Streaming in The Birdcage

Guests holding functions can stream their own music:

  1. 1️⃣ Connect device to “SABB Guest AV – Birdcage” Wi-Fi (get password from SABB Management).
  2. 2️⃣ Open their preferred audio app (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.).
  3. 3️⃣ Use their app’s streaming function (e.g. Spotify’s device picker, AirPlay AirPlay icon, or Chromecast Cast icon) to select either “Birdcage – Bar” (TBC) or “WiiM Birdcage – Back Stables” (or the grouped name if staff have linked them).

Note for Guests: You do not need and will not have access to the WiiM Home app. Playback and volume are controlled entirely through your own streaming app.

🔄 Optional: Spotify Jam Feature

🎶 Spotify Jam allows multiple users to share a playback session, collaboratively queue songs, and control play/pause/skip from their own devices.

  • ☁️ Cross-Network: This feature is cloud-based, so it can work even if devices are on different Wi-Fi networks (e.g., someone on “SABB AV” could Jam with someone on “SABB AV – Birdcage”).
  • 🔗 Potential Use: Could link Main Venue and Birdcage music sessions if a shared playlist or control from the main iPad is desired for a specific reason.

⚠️ Limitations of Spotify Jam for Venue Control:

  • 🔇 No Volume Control Across Zones: Jam does not allow volume adjustment of speakers in a different zone/network.
  • 🚫 Cannot Switch Output Devices: You cannot use Jam to change the actual speaker a session is playing on if that speaker is on a different network.
  • 💡 Recommendation: Not recommended for regular, independent zone control. Best for specific scenarios where collaborative playlist building across areas is the primary goal.
⚙️ Technical Information (Music System)

🔌 Main Venue WiiM: Hard-wired Ethernet connection. Operates on the “SABB AV” VLAN.

🕊️ Birdcage WiiMs: Connect via the “SABB AV – Birdcage” Wi-Fi network (dedicated VLAN).
