WiFi Access Point Installation
This quote is to install two Cisco WiFi access points supplied by Traction IT. The installation will expand WiFi coverage to the grassy outdoor area, external tables, and the area between the grassy space and the pool.
Access Point #1 – Reception Area to Outdoor Pillar
The first access point will tap off existing data points at the reception desk. Cabling will run under the mat (there’s already some existing cabling under that mat) to the wall. The glass wall has a pillar between the two sections directly behind where reception staff stand. The Cisco WiFi access point will be mounted on the outside of that pillar and hardwired. This positioning will provide coverage for the grassy area and outside tables.
Access Point #2 – External Wall Near Jackalope Touch Screen
The second access point will use a spare data cable from the Jackalope Crestron touch screen area. The WiFi access point will be installed behind the hedge on the external wall just above the PowerPoints, keeping it out of sight while providing coverage for the area between the grassy space and the pool.
Alternative Installation Path
An alternative cable path may be available through the roof space, potentially allowing a high-mounted installation on the roof. This option can be discussed and assessed during the on-site visit.
VLAN Requirements & Cost Options
Critical Consideration – VLAN Broadcasting
If you require the WiFi access points to broadcast all VLANs (for segmented network traffic), it is critical to liaise with Traction IT for proper configuration. The Cisco Meraki access points they supply are designed for this type of enterprise VLAN management.
Potential Cost Saving Option
If the WiFi is only needed for generic guest access and EFTPOS terminals, we could potentially bypass Traction IT and use more cost-effective WiFi access points. This would significantly reduce the access point hardware costs.
EFTPOS Connectivity Testing
A critical consideration is whether the EFTPOS machines need to connect to a specific VLAN or can connect to any WiFi network. We believe they don’t require VLAN-specific connectivity, but this needs verification. Testing is scheduled today using the temporary WiFi installation on the grassy area to confirm EFTPOS compatibility with standard WiFi networks.
Recommendation: Once EFTPOS connectivity is confirmed today, we can provide an alternative quote using cost-effective access points if VLAN requirements are not needed.
Before We Start
- Traction IT to supply WiFi access points: The two Cisco WiFi access points will be supplied and configured by Traction IT (not included in this quote) – unless alternative cost-effective option is chosen after EFTPOS testing
- EFTPOS connectivity testing: Testing today will confirm if EFTPOS machines can connect to standard WiFi or require specific VLAN configuration
- VLAN requirements confirmation: If you need all VLANs broadcast, Traction IT involvement is critical for proper network segmentation
- Confirm spare data cable availability: We’ll verify the spare data cable exists at the Jackalope Crestron touch screen area before starting installation
- Pool access point assessment: The existing pool access point appears to be working fine but doesn’t have the range to reach these new coverage areas
- Alternative path discussion: If a roof space cable path is preferred, we can discuss this option during the site visit
