Security System

Everything that keeps your home safe — the alarm, door intercom, and security cameras.

Alarm System

What does the alarm do?
The alarm protects your home by detecting movement inside when you're away or asleep. You turn it on and off using a keypad (like punching in a PIN) near the doors, or with a small remote on your keyring. If someone breaks in, loud sirens go off and you'll be notified.

The Bosch Solution 6000 is controlled via keypads in the garage, north entrance, and south entrance. You also have two RF keyfobs for quick arm/disarm.

Intercom System

What does the intercom do?
When someone presses the button at your gate or front door, a video call pops up on the touchscreens inside your home (and on your phone if you have the app). You can see who's there, talk to them, and unlock the gate or door — all without getting up. Think of it like a video doorbell, but built into the house.

The Hikvision Gen2 IP intercom lets you see and speak to visitors at the gate or front doors from inside the house or via your phone.

Camera System

What do the cameras do?
Seven cameras around the property record everything 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can watch the live feed or look back at old footage from your phone using the free Hik-Connect app. The system keeps about 30 days of recordings before it starts overwriting the oldest footage — so if something happens, you've got plenty of time to check.

7× Hikvision IP cameras provide comprehensive coverage of the property, recording 24/7 to a network video recorder (NVR) with remote viewing via the Hik-Connect app.

Audio System

Music and sound throughout your home, controlled from your phone.

What does the audio system do?
You've got speakers built into the ceiling in six different areas of the house. Using the free Sonos app on your phone, you can play music in any room, play the same song everywhere at once, or have different music in each room. Three rooms (Living, Office, and Rumpus) also have soundbars under the TVs that work together with the ceiling speakers to give you surround sound when watching movies — like being at the cinema.

Network

Your internet and Wi-Fi — how everything stays connected.

What do I need to know?
Your internet comes from a Starlink satellite dish on the roof — no phone line or cable needed. The Wi-Fi covers the entire house and outdoor areas, so you'll have a strong signal everywhere. All your devices (phones, laptops, TVs, speakers, cameras, etc.) connect to one Wi-Fi network and your phone will automatically switch to the strongest signal as you walk around. You just need the network name and password below to connect any new device.

Equipment Hub

The brains of the operation — where all the technology lives.

What do I need to know?
There are two equipment cabinets (racks) in your home — one on the North side and one on the South side. These contain all the networking gear, audio amplifiers, security system brains, and camera recorder. They also have battery backup units so if the power goes out, your security system and internet keep running. You don't need to touch anything in these cabinets — just make sure nothing is blocking them and let us know if any lights turn red or amber.

Maintenance Tips

Keep Cool
Ensure adequate ventilation around racks. Avoid blocking air vents or storing items on top of equipment.
UPS Battery Check
UPS batteries typically last 3-5 years. Check the status LED periodically — amber indicates replacement needed.
Dust Prevention
Light dusting every 6 months keeps equipment running efficiently. Use compressed air for vents.
Don't Power Cycle
Avoid turning equipment off unless necessary. Network gear is designed for 24/7 operation.
